The Haynes crown has always been a stand-out feature of our flutes. The distinctive design, the dimpled dome, the iconic 39 beads around the crown ring (because “40 seemed too crowded, and 38 seemed too sparse”) have always been a signature of the Haynes flute.
Engraving has also been at the heart of Haynes - from the iconic monogram to the distinctive lettering on the barrel that became an industry standard, and decoratively chased and engraved keys, rings, and crowns have been a feature of “forever flutes” for decades - adding an extra level of personalization and beauty to the prospective owner’s dream flute.
After research in both the aesthetic and the sound possibilities that different crown materials and components can have on our Custom flutes we have decided to make a dedicated resource for those who wish to add this uniquely personal touch to their new or existing Custom or Q Series Haynes flute or headjoint either as an upgrade at the time of purchase, or as a stand-alone upgrade to an existing Custom or Haynes Classic Headjoint.
Haynes Custom Crowns are available in four combinations of Sterling silver and 14K gold with the added option of ‘Standard Weight’ or ‘Light Weight’. Now with this added possibility of a variety of dazzling engraving and gemstone setting options - the crown of your new Haynes Flute can be as personal as your own artistic voice.
The standard options are outlined below, but as with all aspects of Haynes Custom Flutes - the possibilities expand and multiply with your own imaginative input.
Personalized gem settings to accommodate a family heirloom stone are possible, as are bespoke engraving designs depicting a certain personal theme or subject. Many of our popular engraving patterns on our flutes began life as customized orders for a customer with a specific request. The Engraving
A selection of hand-engraved designs are available to view in the images below. Signature Haynes-style engraving; a variety of flower based engraving; several Celtic style engraving; Paisley style engraving; fleur-de-lis style engraving. Further personalized designs are also available but may incur a longer lead-time and an increased cost.
The Gems
Diamond, Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire and Amethyst all of them set in a 14K housing by an artisan jeweller. Even though the primary factor here could be seen to be an aesthetic one, during blind tests people have expressed preferences and slight differences in tone quality between the different stones. So this option can be a delight for the ear and the eye.
