A native of South Korea, Wonpyo Lee is the principal flutist of the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra. He has been a top prizewinner of the National Flute Association’s Young Artist Competition, NFA Orchestral Audition Competition, Young Texas Artist Music Competition, Texas Flute Society’s Myrna Brown Artist Competition, Chicago Flute Club Solo Artist Competition, Seattle Flute Society Young Artist Competition, Mid-South Flute Society Young Artist Competition, and the Music Teachers National Association Performance Competitions. He participated in the 9th Kobe International Flute Competition (2017) in Japan.

As an orchestral player, in addition to his position in Boulder, Wonpyo Lee has performed with Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra, Dallas Winds, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Round Rock Symphony Orchestra, and South Dakota Symphony Orchestra. He was invited as a flute fellow at the Music Academy of the West (2018) in Santa Barbara, California performing under the direction of Elim Chan, Stéphane Denève, Gustavo Dudamel, Larry Rachleff.

He appeared as a concerto soloist with Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Conservatory Orchestra, Southern Methodist University’s Meadow Symphony Orchestra, and University of North Texas Symphony Orchestra. He has appeared as a guest artist and educator at the University of Texas at Arlington, Texas A&M University at Commerce, the Texas Flute Symposium, Dallas Public Library, Eastfield College, Dallas Winds Band Camp, and Floot Fire Summer Workshop.

Wonpyo Lee held the Instructor of Flute position at the University of Texas at Dallas School of Arts and Humanities until 2025 and holds a Teaching Fellowship in Flute at the University of North Texas College of Music. He continues to contribute to a private flute studio in Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in Texas with Monica Song, his former teacher and a premier flute pedagogue in Dallas. As a board member of the Texas Flute Society, he currently serves as a co-festival chair of the Texas Flute Festival.

Wonpyo Lee is graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University where he studied flute under Professor Marianne Gedigian and Marina Piccinini - both Haynes Artists. He also received his Professional Studies Diploma from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where he studied under Timothy Day and pursued his Doctor of Musical Arts in flute performance with the related field in music education at the University of North Texas under the guidance of Dr. James Scott and Terri Sundberg.
