Roberto Álvarez is one of the most versatile and sought-after flutists of his generation. Originally from Asturias, on the northern coast of Spain, he has forged an international journey that bridges orchestral playing, chamber music, and a diverse solo repertoire.

He has performed with renowned ensembles such as the Asturias Symphony Orchestra, Oviedo Filarmonía, the Algarve Orchestra, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Bach-Akademie Stuttgart. In 2007, he was appointed Assistant Principal Flute and Piccolo Soloist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, a position he continues to hold. His performances have taken him to prestigious stages across the world, collaborating with some of the most renowned conductors.

Roberto’s performances span a wide range of styles, from classical to contemporary, showcasing his versatility and dedication to expanding the flute repertoire. As a passionate advocate for new music, he has worked closely with composers who have created new, groundbreaking pieces specifically for him, further expanding the flute repertoire and pushing the boundaries of the instrument. His contributions to the flute world have been recognized with multiple international awards, and his recordings continue to captivate audiences globally, reflecting his commitment to artistic expression and musical exploration.

Alongside his performance career, Roberto is a dedicated educator. He teaches at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and the School of the Arts (SOTA) in Singapore, as well as the Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music (PGVIM) in Thailand. He regularly gives masterclasses worldwide with a teaching approach that emphasizes stylistic flexibility, musical curiosity, and technical clarity. Roberto believes that students are not just learners, but fellow travelers on a shared musical journey. Whether performing or teaching, he is committed to fostering a deep, open, and creative relationship with music.
