Jennifer Jo is a flutist and educator based in Los Angeles. She will be pursuing her Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in Flute Performance at UCLA with Denis and Erin Bouriakov starting in the fall of 2022 and will be a Teaching Assistant for Woodwind Chamber Music.

Jennifer recently won 1st Prize in the 2021 Southern California Philharmonic Concerto Competition and performed the Reinecke Concerto as their soloist, as well as 1st Prizes in the 2019 San Francisco Flute Society Competition, 2019 South Carolina Flute Society Comp, 2020 Sacramento Flute Club Comp, and the 2016-17 Carnegie Mellon University School of Music Concerto Comp.

Jennifer performed at Carnegie Hall at the age of 16 after winning the American Protege International Concerto Competition. She has also won top prizes in the 2022 Berkeley Piano Club Competition, 2021 Florida Flute Association Young Artist Comp, 2021 New Jersey Flute Society Young Artist Comp, 2016 Yamaha Young Performing Artists Comp, 2016 National YoungArts Comp, and the Junior Bach Festival.

As an orchestral and chamber musician, she has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic on flute and piccolo under the direction of Gustavo Dudamel at the Walt Disney Hall and the Hollywood Bowl. During the summers, she has performed in festivals at the John F. Kennedy Center, Tanglewood Seiji Ozawa Hall, Davies Symphony Hall, as well as festivals in Switzerland, France, and Norway. She has also performed with the New York Flutists and is a substitute flutist with the New World Symphony.

Jennifer received her Master's of Music degree as a student of Denis and Erin Bouriakov at UCLA on a full scholarship, where she was a Teaching Assistant for the large-lecture Art of Listening course, Gluck Fellow, and Music Partnership Program instructor at the Hollywood Boys & Girls Club. As an educator, Jennifer is very passionate about teaching and maintains a large private studio in Los Angeles.

Jennifer received her BFA degree in Flute Performance and a minor in Psychology from Carnegie Mellon University, where she studied with Alberto Almarza and additionally, Jeanne Baxtresser. She graduated with both University and College Honors and received the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music award. She was also a merit-based Carnegie Scholarship and Dingwall Foundation Scholarship recipient for four years.

Born in Seoul and raised in the SF Bay Area, Jennifer has studied primarily with Maria Tamburrino. Additionally, she has performed in masterclasses at festivals abroad for Emmanuel Pahud, Philippe Bernold, Vincent Lucas, Emily Beyon, Julien Beaudiment, Lorna McGhee, and Michael Cox.

Jennifer is also an award-winning pianist. She passed the Certificate of Merit Advanced Level 10 with State Convention Honors and won prizes in the US Open Music Competition. As an accompanist, she has accompanied soloists, choirs, and musicals.

Jennifer plays a custom 14k gold Haynes flute and is honored to be a part of the Haynes family.
