Hyeonjeong “Hyeony” Choi (she/her/hers) is a flutist from South Korea and a graduate of the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, where she completed her second Master of Music degree studying with Marianne Gedigian. She previously earned her first Master of Music degree from the Yale School of Music under the guidance of Ransom Wilson. Before studying in the United States, she completed her Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance at Hanyang University, where she studied with Gloria Jee-eun Park, former principal flutist of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra.
As a soloist, Hyeonjeong has earned significant recognition on both national and international stages. She was the first prize winner of the 2025 National Flute Association Young Artist Competition and also received the award for Best Performance of the Commissioned Work by Angélica Negrón. Her other accolades include Second prize winner of Philadelphia Flute Society Young Artist Competition, and multiple prizes in national competitions throughout South Korea. She was also the winner of the Hanyang University Concerto Competition, performing Mozart’s Flute Concerto in G Major with the Hanyang University Orchestra.
Hyeonjeong has appeared in major summer festivals including the Pacific Music Festival (2018, 2019) and the Aspen Music Festival since 2023, where she attended on full scholarship and performed under the batons of Christoph Eschenbach, Marin Alsop, and Robert Spano. She serves as a substitute musician with the Houston Symphony, as well as with the New World Symphony and the New Haven Symphony.
Committed to continuous artistic growth, Hyeonjeong has participated in master classes with many of today’s leading flutists, including Emmanuel Pahud, Karl-Heinz Schütz, Andreas Blau, Denis Bouriakov, Julien Beaudiment, Stefán Ragnar Höskuldsson, Silvia Careddu, Christina Jennings, Mark Sparks, Nadine Asin, Demarre McGill, Philippe Bernold, and Paolo Taballione.
