Southern California native Elvin Schlanger is a graduate of the Yale School of Music where he received his Master of Music studying with Ransom Wilson. Previously, he graduated from California State University, Long Beach with his Bachelor of Music where he studied with Dr. John Barcellona. He is currently pursuing his Artist Diploma at the Colburn School where he studies with Jim Walker.

Elvin has won and placed in several competitions including 1st place in the Rotary District 5330 Music Competition and the Southern California Philharmonic Young Artist Competition, 3rd place in the Samnium University International Orchestra Awards, and was a finalist in the Yale School of Music Concerto Competition, Music Academy of the West Keston MAX Competition, and the Music Academy of the West Duo Competition alongside pianist Jingsi Lu. He has also received awards and recognitions such as the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music Scholar of the Month, Martin Figoten Performing Arts Scholarship, Richard Baker Scholarship, CSULB Woodwind Department Outstanding Student Award, and the Yale School of Music Alumni Association Prize.

He has appeared as a soloist with the Inland Valley Youth Symphony, Southern California Philharmonic, and Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra, the latter of which he performed two seasons as their principal flute and toured Spain. He has also performed in masterclasses with Dr. John Bailey, Denis Bouriakov, Sarah Jackson, Carol Wincenc, Demarre McGill, Jennifer Grim, and Philippe Bernold.  He has attended the Domaine Forget International Music Festival, Jim Walker's Beyond the Masterclass, and was a fellow at the 75th anniversary season of the Music Academy of the West.
