Shantanique Moore is Principal Flutist of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. Moore previously held fellowships with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, formative experiences that refined her orchestral voice and deepened her musical perspective. In addition to her role in Memphis, she maintains a freelance career, appearing with orchestras across the United States and internationally in London.

She has enjoyed work as a featured soloist since college, where she appeared in several solo opportunities and won her institution’s concerto competition. She has since appeared as a featured soloist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, and the Chineke! Orchestra. These engagements offer opportunities for direct connection with audiences and close collaboration with fellow musicians.

Her early musical path began at age ten and was shaped by formative orchestral experiences. As a high school student, she performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Civic Youth Ensembles, fostering a commitment to orchestral music and ensemble performance. At thirteen, she founded an after-school program to support younger flutists, an early reflection of her dedication to mentorship and education.

Moore earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Wayne State University in Detroit, where she studied with Laura Larson and Sharon Sparrow, and began freelancing professionally while still an undergraduate student.

She is deeply engaged with the Sphinx Organization and the Gateways Music Festival, participating in orchestral performances and collaborative projects with musicians from leading institutions across the field. She has also served on the Board of the Southeast Michigan Flute Association as Secretary and Flute Choir Director and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Memphis Youth Symphony Program.

Outside the concert hall, Moore is an avid practitioner of hot Pilates, using movement, strength, and breathwork to support mind–body connection and overall well-being essential to sustainable musicianship. She performs on a custom silver Wm. S. Haynes flute, chosen for its depth, flexibility, and capacity for a rich, resonant sound.
