A native of Venezuela, flutist Rodrigo Rodriguez is building a vibrant musical career rooted in redefining the concept of flute playing through versatility, manifested through cultural identity. He is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Flute Performance at the Lynn Conservatory of Music, where he studies under Jeffrey Khaner on a full scholarship. His journey in the United States was shaped early on by receiving the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award through NPR’s From the Top, a scholarship that allowed him to acquire his first professional instrument. Along with his participation in National YoungArts Week, this experience ignited his commitment to using music as a bridge between people and as a reflection of his Venezuelan heritage.

Rodrigo has performed in major venues and ensembles across the country. Appearances include Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, The Kennedy Center, and most recently Lincoln Center with the Frost Symphony Orchestra. He has also trained with musicians of the National Symphony Orchestra during the NSO Summer Music Institute, performed throughout the Washington, D.C. area, and participated in the National Youth Orchestra of USA, where he expanded his orchestral experience and technical command. In 2025, Rodrigo was awarded first prize in the Florida Flute Association College Young Artist Competition and was selected as a finalist for the New York Flute Club Young Artist Competition.

Rodrigo’s musical voice has been shaped not only by classical training but by a broad range of multi-genre collaborations that celebrate artistic openness and cultural exchange. He has performed alongside Grammy-winning jazz trumpeter Sean Jones, worked with boundary-breaking artist John Daversa, and collaborated with celebrated Latin jazz flutist Nestor Torres, who has been an inspiration in his exploration of genre-bending flute performance. His connection to Venezuelan artistry runs deep—Rodrigo has performed under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel, played with world-renowned cuatro virtuoso Jorge Glem, and shared the stage with acclaimed Venezuelan singer-songwriter Elena Rose. These experiences have strengthened his belief that the flute can tell stories across cultures, styles, and communities.

Rodrigo’s summer festival experiences have been equally formative. He has attended programs such as Festival Napa Valley, where he performed with the festival orchestra, explored chamber music, and collaborated with world-class artists including Joyce DiDonato, Tessa Lark, and Stéphane Denève. These festivals have played a central role in shaping his artistic voice and exposing him to diverse musical environments. Rodrigo is also a proud recipient of the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation Tuition Assistance Scholarship, which supports his continued artistic growth.

His artistry has been further enriched through masterclasses with influential flutists and conductors such as Demarre McGill, Jake Fridkis, Jennifer Gunn, Seth Morris, Lin Ma, Erica Peel, Nestor Torres, Aaron Goldman, and Gerard Schwarz. Rodrigo holds a Bachelor of Music in Performance with a minor in Music Industry studying under Dr. Jennifer Grim.

Outside of music, Rodrigo enjoys traveling, going to the gym, plane spotting and savoring the Venezuelan foods that anchor him to home.
